The conference kick-off event, Engines of Inequality? Elites, Power and Politics, a high-level roundtable co-hosted by the University of Geneva, will take place at UniMail at 18:30 on November 7.

Registration and Badge Collection


All participants must register in advance of the Conference with the United Nations Online Accreditation and Registration system (“Indico”) and will be issued identity badges upon arrival.



→ Please note that registration is possible until 9 November.

On arrival at the Pregny Visitors’ Entrance Gate pass through security and go to the desk to announce yourself, presenting your passport or ID, as well as the QR code provided in the original approval of the registration email and collect your badge. Given that these procedures may take time, please plan your arrival accordingly. We suggest arriving at the Palais at least 30 to 40 minutes in advance, and more if you arrive at busy times, such as 08.00 – 09.00.

For security reasons, the identification badge must be worn and visible to UNOG Security staff at all times during the conference.

Visa Requirements

Depending on nationality, participants attending the Conference may require a visa to enter Switzerland. Visa requirements must be met before arrival in Switzerland. UNRISD is not able to provide participants with an invitation letter for visa purposes.



Travel and Transportation

Traveling to Geneva
The Geneva Cointrin International Airport serves more than 50 European and international airlines. From the airport it only takes 6 minutes to reach the city center, a free public transportation pass for use within central Geneva can be obtained in the baggage claim area, which is valid for 80 minutes. Additionally, when you stay in a Geneva hotel you will receive a “Geneva Transport Card” free of charge. With this card, public transport in Geneva is free for the full duration of your stay.

  • From the airport by train
    The airport railway station has direct access to the airport check-in and arrivals areas. All trains departing from the airport stop at the Cornavin Train Station (city center). Trains depart every 12 minutes in peak hours and the journey duration is 6 minutes.
  • From the airport by bus
    The following urban bus lines below will take you from the airport to the city centre. They stop every 8-15 minutes at rush hours at the airport (bus stops at the check-in level, in front of or beside the train station).
    Bus 5: Aéroport - Aréna/Palexpo - Nations - Cornavin - Rive - Malagnou - Thônex-Vallard
    Bus 10: Aéroport - Balexert - Cornavin - Bel-Air - Rive

To the Palais des Nations (UNOG map)
  • By tram or bus
    Trams number 13 and 15, as well as buses 5, 8, 11, 14, 28, V, F, and Z serve the Place des Nations, where the Palais des Nations is located. Buses 8, 28, F, V and Z will take you directly to the Visitors’ Entry Pregny Gate (Appia stop), where you must go when you first arrive at the conference to collect your badge. Subsequently you can enter via the Nations gate.

    Arriving from the airport:
    Bus 5, direction Thônex-Vallard; stop at Cornavin; take then tram 15, direction Palettes; stop at Uni Mail.
    Arriving from the main station Cornavin:

Participants at the Conference are free to make their own lodging arrangements. Accommodation options are available on the
Geneva Tourism Office website. Below are some suggestions of hotels that are relatively close to the Palais des Nations. We would advise that you make your hotel booking directly and as early as possible since hotels in Geneva can be very busy during this period.
